Faction symbols(MarcelP), Descriptions(Flieger+Nakharar+Giorgios),Starting maps(Nakharar)

Faction Symbols :

Starting Maps + Descriptions:

Kingdom of Goths and Italians:

The Kingdom of the Goths and Italians was created by Theoderic the Great when Emperor Zeno sent him to reclaim Italy for the Roman Empire. Henceforth Theoderic and his successors were ruling the West in the name of the Emperor. Italy and Dalmatia finally recovered from the chaos of the fifth century, for in the new age of peace and security economy and culture flourished again. Leaving Roman civil administration in Italian hand, the Goths took over the military protection of the kingdom. However they were no fur-clad savages, they had been steadily Romanized, evidently read classical Greek and Latin authors, and tolerated other cultures, even protected them, for example the Jews.

The army relied on most heavily armoured lancer cavalry the Goths were famed for, but also sported various capable support forces. The Gothic field army was drilled regularly and excellently equipped. Furthermore, remnants of the Roman border troops were still active and protected the northern flanks of the kingdom.

Lombards:

The Lombards have a time-honored name that could be heart centuries ago, thanks to their long beards, so legend says. Their migration did not lead them as far away from their homes as the Goths, and they established a kingdom at the Danube, bordering the Goths and the Gepids. Earlier they destroyed the Heruli kingdom and they are still not resting. Yet they are kept in check by Theoderic’s alliance in the west and the Gepid’s alliance with the ERE. Only the increasing tensions between these alliances could open a window of opportunity, should they exhaust fighting themselves, since there is nothing valuable in the north.

The Lombard army core is made up of heavy noble cavalry, supported by light retainer cavalry using spears and javelins. The bulk of the footmen are archers, although some heavy infantry still is on the field.

Empire of Iran:

The rebirthing Empire of Iran had almost given the death blow to the Roman Empire in the third century and this old rivalry has not ended. The Great King of Iran and Un-Iran is rumored to claim the old Achaemenid Empire and even though this is likely to be just a rumor indeed, the Persians frequently push west into the rich provinces of the Romans. Both Empires are at an uneasy peace, which could quickly become a war, as not only territories are contested but also the supremacy over smaller states at their borders. But yet another great thread has emerged from the north-east once again, which has proven to be even more dangerous than the Romans to the existence of the Iranian Empire.

Fortunately, the new Persian army is a formidable force with its professional corps of cavalry reinforced by various national contingents. The heavy cavalry combines the firepower of a reflex bow and a thrusting lance while heavily armoured. It has become role model for pretty much every heavy cavalry around with good reason. Despite this focus on horsemen, the army also excels at siege warfare.

Kingdom of Alwan:

The people of Alwan are not those people who want to conquer, pillage and fight. They are peaceful people are for that reason their lands are not huge. But they are proud patriotic people and mostly a pure race. They can hold their own and armed with their unique alphabet and religion they share with the Armenians, taming these people is no easy task. Though allied with the Armenians can the individual clans be trusted when the Armenians cannot trust each other? Is now the Kingdom of Alwan’s time to rise and reconquer the lands taken by the Sassanids?

Eastern Roman Empire:

It has been one hundred and eighty nine years since Constantine the Great officially dedicated his new showpiece city as capital of the Roman world, and since then, Europe has changed out of all recognition. The Western half of the Empire is gone, as its great scourge, the Hunnic Empire of Attila, ravaged the land and destroyed it. In their place have come semi-Romanised barbarian states; the Ostrogoths of Italy, the Vandals of Africa, and the Visigoths of Spain.

Yet to dismiss the Empire as dead and buried is the behaviour of a fool. Despite facing the formidable Persian threat head on for three centuries, the Eastern part of the Roman world is now stronger than ever. A string of strong and competent Emperors have weeded out the cancer at the heart of the Roman state; its barbarian generals, and have replaced them with true Romans, raised from the Balkans and Anatolia; and loyal, steadfast Armenians. Wise saving policies have also left Constantinople as mistress of what is by far the richest state in the world.

And now, this formidable energy seems ready to be unleashed against the occupiers of rightfully Roman lands across the world. The Emperor Justin has been in power for a year, but the real strength behind the throne is his nephew Justinian, an intensely hard working and ambitious Latin speaking “true Roman”. If anyone stands a chance of restoring the Pax Romana to the lands of the Mediterranean, and finally establishing dominance over the Persian menace, it is Justinian. Right now, it seems that it would take an Act of God to arrest the destiny of the Eastern Roman Empire. An Act of God that surely will never come from the humble flea?

The Hephthalites:

The Hephthalites are possibly one of the greatest threads to the Persian Empire. Posing as the Huns of the East they have the same fighting style, same techniques and tactics but yet are different. For these face the Persian Empire. The tactics have been varied to suit this and many Emperors will rise and fall at the will of these Hephthalites. Though the Hephthalites have broken through the Sassanid lines many times they have failed to conquer completely, but have got as far as placing an Emperor there. They have acted as mercenaries and allies against the Eastern Roman Empire. But tensions are glooming between the Persian Empire, the Hephthalites and the neighbouring steppe tribes. From all around it seems that the Hephthalites are surrounded by enemies but not yet at war with them. This is bound to change as the Hephthalites either face there end, or only become stronger.

Armenia:

Armenia, the United Armenian Kingdom had lost its power in 428 and was thus split between the Sassanid Empire and the Eastern Roman Empire, after the reveloution of 451, a new Armenian patriotic spirit was created combined with the language and the unique way of Christianity Armenians seemed to be a problem for Sassanids and Romans alike. Armenians proved to be hard to convert and patriotic aswell as a people who are ready to protect their homes by fighting to the limit.

In the Treaty of Nvarsak in 482 the Sassanids were under pressure from the Armenian General Vahan Mamikonian and thus agreed to implement Armenians Governors and Marzpans. However the Armenians are still ununited, the Nakharars and Iskhans of regions shell themself looking for their own good and do not help each other and this is their weakness... but a weakness is also a strength the Fuedal system and seperation also gives availability of strong fuedal soldiers like Nakharars and Iskhans Guard...

Re: East of Rome

Mensaje por Beneker el Vie 7 Ago 2009 - 21:28

Crimean Goths:

What was left of the Gothic Kingdom on the shores of the Black Sea, which had been destroyed by the Huns in 375, regrouped on the Crimea. With the death of Attila they regained their freedom and by clever diplomacy they became a vital ally to the Roman Empire. Their small, but prosperous realm on the peninsula became so dear to the Goths that they did not join Theoderic and his march into Italy. Instead, the good relations to Constantinople were further increased by converting to the Trinitarian faith.

However the key of their success against mighty invaders like Huns, Avars or Bulgars was not so much diplomacy, as they were pretty much on their own. The Crimean Goths retained the fighting style of their western cousins with their nobles fighting as heavy lancers, but they also adapted to the difficult terrain. By extensively fortifying the already rugged landscape and building cities in crates, the Goths were dug in deep. They would not give it up without a bloody fight.

Bulgars:

The Bulgars have always been divided on tribes and clans and when Attila's Huns came to the Transcaucasian steppes, the nomadic Kutrigurs went away with them for conquests and plunder in Europe, while the Utigurs became vassals of the Scourge of God and stayed at home. The Kutrigur horsemen gained fame and renown during these campaigns, but the more settled Utigurs are just as deadly fighters when it comes to defending their lands. However, after Attila's death, the Huns grew weak and his favourite son Ernakh inherited both of the Bulgar tribes and returned to their homeland, uniting them into a strong fist which now has the power to follow the legacy of the Huns or to even surpass it. At least as long as a strong leader stands ahead of them and the Sun keeps rising from the east...

Kingdom of Kartli:

The Kingdom of Kartli is a small nation, small and not so powerful compared to the giants of the Eastern Roman Empire and the Persian Empire. But if they have survived since the 3rd century BC what is stopping them now? The reason for their weakness is because of the Feudal Lords that own various amounts of the land, but unlike Armenia they have a sense of unity with their King. But with war looming over Lazika, it seems Kartli will see war, it is written.

Avars:

Hordes have come and gone through the steppes raiding and pillaging, killing and raping, so what is so different about the Avars compared to the Huns or other raiders from the east? Nothing. Everything. The Avars have excellent armour and like the Huns have excellent archers. Strong in defence, powerful in attack they should not be underestimated. But has the attack from the Huns nearly a hundred years ago taught everyone the lesson of how to fight this horde?

Gepids:

Legend has it that the Gepids descended from those Goths, who crewed the slowest of the three ships leaving Scandinavia at the beginning of their migration, hence their name, which means ‘slow’ in Gothic. Indeed Gepids and Goths have some cultural similarities, although the former are far less Romanized since they lived outside the borders of the Empire. The Gepids may be taunted for being slow, but it was them who seized the opportunity of Attila’s death and break free of the Hunnic rule. Instrumental in defeating the Huns, they quickly conquered Dacia and began to bargain with the Roman Empire. Consequently the Gepids became Roman allies, but completely independent. In independence they grow confident and build up forces, so the rich provinces in the south are anything but safe, should the Empire be distracted. Though their army of noble cavalry and common men foot-archers is rather unsophisticated and backwards in many respects, it stands undefeated yet.

Huns:

The Huns have only a fraction left of there once so powerful Kingdom, stretching from the Steppes to Germania. Attila the Hun the inspiring general and leader died, but unlike many old historical stories of declines of Empires with many sons. So many he couldn’t keep track, and since the Hunnic system was based mainly around the King and Leader, there wasn’t any support of follow up and his unexpected death didn’t keep time to prepare or assign a heir and so infighting and division left them vulnerable and they lost a lot of their land. But they still stand strong with their superior Horse Archer Tactics and their strong bows and as long as they have 1 army they will always have hope.

Moravians:

Moravia is a region far away from the grand politics of the Empires and Kingdoms which dominated the time. With the Germanic migration almost over, a new people steps in from the unexplored country of Eastern Europe, the Slavs. Once the Romans took notice of them, they quickly became the new barbarians of their age, and the same stereotypes applied to the Germanics long ago were revived for the Slavs. Indeed they must make a frightening impression on the Romans, tall and hairy as they are. No less strange to the Romans is the fact, that the Slavs have no king, actually they despise any form of kingship or overlordship. Thus they don’t form large political unions at all.

The lack of an organized state and its economy is also reflected in their warfare. Few if any have armour and disciplined formation are not seen. In turn, the great mobility and adaptability of the Slavs make them feared raiders, who often feigned retreat and lure unwary enemies into an ambush.

Re: East of Rome

Mensaje por Beneker el Vie 7 Ago 2009 - 21:31

Aedowulf always hated Easterners. Never fought properly like men, instead just get men with sticks on bows, who ride around and around trying to kill. Weak, cowardly, not a way for a man to fight. We were going to teach those Alwan a lesson. The Eastern Romans decided not to fight and mustered a army of there allied Alwan people far to the East. However strong they were Aedowulf are King said they MUST be stopped or us Lombards will be destroyed and forgotten and so we fought.

We assembled shield wall missile infront, beserkers and axemen to the right, us steel lads to the left, the nobles behind us to encourage us and the cataphracts on the right wing.

We were fighting the Kingdom of Alwan, we feared there nobles for they had a reputation of immortality and gret discipline, as did we fear many of there other soldiers. But we had nothing to fear, but fear itself...

They sent in there archers and they fired, our crossbowmen fired back, we didnt take much damage but our berserker tribal friends on the right with no armour lost dearly. We had to keep the shield wall. The Cataphracts took us out of our pain and charged into the enemy line

So they sent everything in, nobles, tribals, allied warriors, everytthing. There mounted Nobles came charging towards us, scared we held our shields higher, we lost many but they couldnt brake through.

There dismounted Nobles were sent to the right, were they faced the berserkers, our men were weakened by the arrows and though faught lost many men, but they didnt brake the line.

They flanked our right wing, me with there Pagan Warriors, these were outstanding warriors, not very strong with attack but so mobile and agile though armoured.

Our Nobles came flying in i no longer fought on two fronts as blood from a Alwan Noble splat onto me as one of our brave nobles split him in half, the tide became even again. The battle still waged.

They started running for their lives, so we chased and chased them hard running for victory, though many of us were killed by arrows that didnt matter we had won, there just about as i was about to slice one of those fleeing nobles, i saw there mounted nobles and archers go around our rear, there warriors on foot turned around including there nobles and attacked, we were sliced down, tired after running fired at, we had lost our missile support, and so we were defeated. I survived as the last man by acting dead i had to i couldnt get up.

I went later on to see if i could find any survivors or friends, but none, i found Aedewulf and Rolfaye(my brother) both dead, then so it was the Lombards were no more but me. My brothers dead, my enemies dead, we thought each other over a war that was neither there of our burden. We had no fight with the Alwan but yet we had to kill them, and they had to kill us only to act as Dummies for the Roman Bastards...

I was handed a scroll from a peasent who counted the dead with his friends, as i stood looking at Aedewulf our final King, i saw the death toll while looking at armoured Aedewulf and I frowned for we had lost, i had lost, the Lombards had lost, all was lost. If this is the cost of war, let it be, but i will not pay it...
